Ibn Kathir said, “There is a difference of scholarly opinion regarding the number of prophets and messengers.”

Ibn Jibrin said regarding that: “The hadiths on this topic are not free of weaknesses, despite their great number. The best is to refrain from discussing this matter. What is required of the Muslim is to believe in specific terms in those whom Allah and His Messenger have mentioned by name, and to believe in general terms in the others.”
