Al-Tahhawi said, “We believe in the resurrection, the requital of deeds on the Day of Resurrection, the presentation of all people before Allah, the reckoning, the reading of the records, reward and punishment, the sirat (bridge over Hell) and the balance.”
The presentation of people before Allah on the Day of Resurrection will be of three types:
i. The first type: The presentation of all creatures, righteous and evildoers alike, before Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, The evidence for that includes the verse in which Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning), "And they will be presented before your Lord in rows, and He will say, You have certainly come to Us just as We created you the first time." (al-Kahf 18:48)
ii. The second type: The presentation of only the believers, which will be the easy reckoning. ‘A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said, “Whoever is examined thoroughly at the reckoning will be doomed.” I said: O Messenger of Allah, didn’t Allah say he will have an easy reckoning al-Inshiqaq 84:8? He said: “That is the presentation of deeds.” (Al-Bukhari, Muslim) Al-Baghawi said, “The words ‘Whoever is examined thoroughly at the reckoning will be doomed’ refer to being subjected to a rigorous accounting, such that nothing is omitted from it.”
iii. The third type: The presentation of only the disbelievers and hypocrites, which will be the thorough reckoning, a presentation that will shame them before all people, with no concealment or forgiveness. This is indicated by the verse in which Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning), "Who does greater evil than he who fabricates lies against Allah? Such people will be presented before their Lord, and the witnesses will say: These are the ones who lied about their Lord. Indeed, the curse of Allah is upon the evildoers." (Hud 11:18) Al-Sam‘ani said: “Presentation means showing a thing so that it can be seen and examined in order to determine its condition. The same verb is used in Arabic to refer to the ruler inspecting the troops.” Ibn Kathir said, “Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, will make clear the situation of those who fabricated lies against Him; He will shame them in the hereafter before all creatures, angels, messengers, prophets and all of humanity and the jinn.”
