9.1. Evidence that the angels record everything that people do
i. Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning), "While indeed there are watchers appointed over you, honourable scribes." (al-Infitar 82:10-11) Al-Sam‘ani said, “The word scribes refers to the angels who sit on a person’s right and left, writing down what he does of good and bad deeds.”
ii. Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning), "When the two recording angels record his deeds, constantly accompanying him, one on his right, the other on his left. Not a word does he utter but there is with him a watcher, ready to record it." (Qaf 50:17-18)

Ibn Kathir said, “The words when the two recording angels record his deeds refer to the two angels who write down man’s deeds. constantly accompanying him, one on his right, the other on his left that is, they are always watching. Not a word does he that is, the son of Adam utter that is, whatever words he speaks, but there is with him a watcher, ready to record it that is, there is one who is watching his words, ready to write them down, and he does not omit any word or movement, as Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, says elsewhere (interpretation of the meaning), "While indeed there are watchers appointed over you, honourable scribes." (al-Infitar 82:10-11)

9.2. Evidence that the records of deeds will be given to people on the Day of Resurrection
i. Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning), "And when the records of deeds are laid open." (al-Takwir 81:10) Ibn Jarir said, “In the verse: 'And when the records of deeds are laid open.' (Al-Takwir 81:10) Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, shows when the records of people’s deeds are laid open, after having been rolled up with everything written in them of good and bad deeds.'"
ii. Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning), "As for the one who is given his record of deeds in his right hand, he will have an easy reckoning, and he will go back to his family in paradise rejoicing. As for the one who is given his record of deeds from behind his back, he will call out wishing for death,
and he will enter the raging fire. He lived rejoicing among his family." (al-Inshiqaq 84:7-12)

Al-Sa ‘di said, “As for the one who is given his record of deeds in his right hand – this refers to those who are blessed. He will have an easy reckoning which will be an easy presentation of his deeds before Allah; Allah will make him admit his sins until, when he thinks that he is doomed, Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, will say to him: ‘I concealed them for you in the previous world and I will conceal them for you today.’
and he will go back to his family (in paradise) rejoicing because he has been saved from punishment and has attained reward. As for the one who is given his record of deeds from behind his back that is, in his left hand from behind, he will call out (wishing) for death because of disgrace and shame, and what he will find in his record of deeds that he sent forth and did not repent from. And he will enter the raging fire that is, the raging fire will surround him on all sides, and he will suffer different kinds of punishment there. That is because in this world, he lived rejoicing among his family, and the resurrection never crossed his mind. He did evil deeds and never thought that he would be brought back to his Lord and would be made to stand before Him.”
iii. Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning), "Every man’s deeds We have fastened to his neck, and on the Day of Resurrection We will bring forth for him a record of his deeds which he will find spread wide open. It will be said to him, 'Read your own record; sufficient is your own soul as a reckoner against you this day.'" (al-Isra’ 17:13-14)

Ibn Kathir said, “The words and on the Day of Resurrection We will bring forth for him a record of his deeds which he will find spread wide open mean: We collect all his deeds in a record which will be given to him on the Day of Resurrection, either in his right hand if he is blessed, or in his left hand if he is doomed. spread wide open means: it will be open so that he and others can read it; it will contain all his deeds, from the beginning of his life until the end. 'On that day man will be informed of what he sent on ahead and left behind. Indeed, man is well aware of what he is doing, even though he may offer his excuses to justify his deeds.' (al-Qiyamah 75:13-15) Hence Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, says here, 'It will be said to him: Read your own record; sufficient is your own soul as a reckoner against you this day.' That is, you know that you were not wronged and nothing was recorded against you except what you did, because you remember everything that you did, and no one will forget anything that he did. Each person will read his record, whether he is illiterate or illiterate.”

iv. Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning), "As for the one who is given his record of deeds in his right hand, he will say: Here, read my record! Indeed, I knew that I would face my reckoning. So he will have a well-pleasing life, in a garden on high, with fruits within easy reach. It will be said to them: Eat and drink with enjoyment because of what you did of righteous deeds in days gone by.
As for the one who is given his record of deeds in his left hand, he will say: Would that I had not been given my book, and knew nothing of my reckoning. Would that my death had been the end of me! My wealth has availed me nothing, and my power is gone from me." (al-Haqqah 69:19-29)

v. ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated, "I heard the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) say, 'On the Day of Resurrection the believer will be brought close to his Lord, until He places His concealment over him and screens him from the people, then He will make him confess his sins, and He will say, 'Do you admit it?' He will say, 'Yes, O Lord, I admit it.' He will say, 'I concealed them for you in the previous world and I forgive you for them today.' Then he will be given the record of his good deeds. As for the disbelievers and the hypocrites, it will be called out before all of creation, 'These are the ones who disbelieved in Allah.'" (Al-Bukhari, Muslim)

Scholarly views regarding that
i. Ibn Hazm said, “The books in which the angels record people’s deeds are real; we believe in them although we do not know how they are… The people will be given their books on the Day of Resurrection. The victorious believers who will not be punished will be given them in their right hands, the disbelievers will be given them in their left hands, and the believers who committed major sins will be given them behind their backs.”

ii. Abu ‘Uthman al-Sabuni said, “The people of Islam and the Sunnah believe in the resurrection after death, on the Day of Resurrection, and in everything that Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, has told us about of the horrors of that day, which is true and will come to pass. People will be in different situations in terms of what they will see and experience there on that momentous day, with regard to receiving the records of their deeds in their right hands and left hands, answering questions, and all the turmoil and troubles that have been mentioned will happen on that momentous day and in that terrifying place of standing.”

iii. Ibn Taymiyah said, “The records will be spread out; they are the records of deeds. Some people will receive their records in their right hands, and others will receive them in their left hands or from behind their backs.”

iv. Al-Safarini said, “The records are books in which the angels write everything that each person does of words and deeds… To sum up, the spreading out of the records and receiving them in one’s right hand or left hand is something in which we must believe, and know deep in our hearts that it is true, because it is proven in the Qur’an and Sunnah and by scholarly consensus.”
