Section 1: Definition of Khul’, the ruling and wording of Khul’

Definition: The Arabic word Khul’ is taken from the word Khal’, which means removal and separation, and it is used exclusively to refer to the termination of the marriage bond. In Islam, the term refers to the agreement between the husband and wife to compensate the husband in return for his acceptance to terminate the marriage by using specific words.
2. The ruling of Khul’
a. In the event where the wife is asking the husband for Khul’: The scholars are in consensus that the wife can ask her husband for Khul’. The consensus is transmitted by al-Maawardee, Ibn Qudaamah, al-Nawawee, Ibn Taymiyyah, Ibn al-Qayyim, and Ibn Hajar.
