Evidence from the Sunnah:
1.
On the authority of Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said, “The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said,
Wear your white clothes, for they are among your best clothes, and shroud your dead in them. [423] It was narrated by Aboo Dawood (3878), Al-Tirmidhee (994), Ahmad (2219), and the wording is theirs, and Ibn Maajah (1472) abridged. Al-Tirmidhi said: It is hasan and authentic, and Ibn Abd al-Barr said in “Al-Tamheed” (22/145): It is established, and it was authenticated by Al-Nawawee in “Al-Majmoo’” (7/215), and Ibn Al-Mulqin in “Al-Badr Al-Muneer” (4/) 671).

It was narrated by Al-Nasaa’i (1896) and Al-Bazzaar (4520). Ibn Abd al-Barr said in “Al-Tamheed” (22/145): It is proven, and it was authenticated by Al-Albaanee in “Saheeh Sunan Al-Nasaa’i” (1896).

Fifth: Wearing beautiful and elegant clothes without extravagance
1. Allah, the Sublime, states, “Say, ‘who has forbidden the adornments of Allah which He took for His servants.” (al-A`raf: 32)
2. Allah, the Exalted, states, “And those who when they spend, they do not spend wastefully, nor stingily, rather they are moderate between them.” (al-Furqan: 67)

Its openings: that is: its two parts: split from the back and split from the front. Makfoof: that is: stitched. See: (Sharh Al-Nawawee on Muslim) (14/44), (Mirqaat Al-Mafaateeh) by Mulla Al-Harawee (7/2769). with it (i.e., brocade). Wearing old clothes [431] Al-Bathaathah: raggedness of appearance. What is meant by it here is: to leave luxury and be discreet in dress, and to be modest in it with ability. And their consensus is that if he walks in only one shoe, the walking on it is not forbidden for him, and he is not disobedient according to most scholars, and if he is aware of the prohibition). (Al-Istithkaar) (8/313). Ibn al-‘Arabi said: “If the prohibition comes with a threat, it indicates that it is forbidden, and if it comes unconditioned, it is an etiquette, unless it is accompanied by a presumption indicating that it is in the interest of the body or concerning wealth based on the exclusiveness of a person, for the prohibition in that regard is in the case of being makrooh (disliked). If the prohibition was for the benefit of the common people, then it is haram (expressly forbidden), and the evidence for this is that a person bears the harm on himself, if that is small, and he does not have the right to inflict it to others, whether it is little or much.” (Al-Qabas fee Sharh Muwattaa of Maalik Ibn Anas) (p. 1110). Except that you say that I am lying to the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) so that you may be guided, and I go astray! If a leather strap of [a sandal] of one of you breaks, he should not walk in the other sandal [only] until he fixes it [the faulty sandal]. [436] Narrated by Muslim (2098).
3. On the authority of Aboo Al-Zubayr that he heard Jaabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said, “Do not walk in one shoe.” [437] Narrated by Muslim (2091).

Tenth: Wrapping the body completely (Ishtimaal as-Sammaa) [438] Ishtimaal as-Sammaa: that is a man covers himself with his garment completely and cannot lift any side of it. Rather, it was said about it: It is called Sammaa because he closes all the outlets for his hands and feet, like a solid rock that has no breach or crack, and the jurists say: It is to cover with a single garment that has nothing else part from it on it, then he lifts it from one of his sides and puts it on his shoulder, so his nakedness is thereby revealed. See: (An-Nihaayah fee Ghareeb Al-Hadeeth wal Aathaar) by Ibn Al-Atheer (3/54).
On the authority of Aboo Al-Zubayr that he said that he heard Jaabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said, “Do not wrap the body completely.” [439] Narrated by Muslim (2091).
