Overall meaning : Now, have you, Quraysh idolaters, considered Al-Laat, Al-‘Uzzaa and Manaat, that other third idol, which you worship besides Allah and claim that they are Allah’s daughters? Why would you prefer only sons for yourselves whereas to Allah you attribute daughters, whom you hate and do not like to have as offspring?! That then would indeed be an unfair division!
They are no other than empty names, which you and your fathers have given to such alleged deities, about whose divinity Allah has sent down no proof whatsoever!
By worshipping such idols, the idolaters follow nothing but conjecture and falsehood towards which they incline, even though right guidance from their Lord has now come to them.
Does man imagine that he can have whatever good he desires?! By no means! Indeed, both the life to come and the present life belong to Allah, who alone can give whatever He wills to whomever He pleases.
