Overall meaning : Believers, when the call to prayer is made on Friday, go to the mosque in order to listen to the sermon and offer the Friday prayer, and leave off all business. That is best for you, if you but knew it. Then, when you finish the Friday prayer, disperse in the land and seek Allah’s bounty if you so wish: no blame whatsoever will attach to you for doing so; and remember Allah much, so that you will be successful.
When some of your companions, Muhammad, see some merchandise or any form of amusement during the Friday sermon, they flock to it, leaving you standing up on the pulpit. Say to them, Muhammad, ‘The rich reward Allah has for good deeds is far better than than the enjoyment of all forms of amusement and all the profits that you make from business. Allah is the best provider.’
