Overall meaning : Desist, then, you wicked wrongdoers, from defrauding people and from being heedless of resurrection and judgement! The record of deeds of the wicked from mong the defrauders and others is in Sijjeen—a confined space in the seventh earth. What will make you, Muhammad, realise the true reality of Sijjeen in which the record of deeds of the wicked is kept? The record of the wicked is the record in which their deeds are written.
Woe on Resurrection Day betide those who deny divine judgement and recompense! None would, however, deny that day except every transgressor who exceeds Allah’s limits and is immersed in sin. When the verses of the Qur’an are recited to them, he calls it a lie, saying, ‘Fables of the ancients!”
Desist from making such false statements! The truth is not as these wicked transgressors think it to be. The reason for their falsehoods is due to the numerous sins that have cast a veil on their hearts, preventing them from believing the Qur’an. No indeed! Such deniers of the truth will, on Resurrection Day, be screened off from their Lord and will never see Him. Then they will be cast into the Fire, to burn in it, and then be reproachfully told, ‘This is the torment of the Fire that you used to deny in the life of the world. Taste it, then!’
