Overall meaning : I swear by the night when it covers everything with its darkness, by the day when it brightens up and appears in glory and by Allah who has created the male and the female, all by His power, that your actions and endeavours, mankind, are different—among you are the unbelievers and the believers, the disobedient and the obedient.
For those who spend out of their wealth for the cause of Allah, fear Allah and believe in Paradise, We will make easy for them the doing of good deeds that will eventually lead to Paradise; as for those who are tight-fisted with their wealth, think themselves so self-sufficient to need Allah and do not believe in Paradise, We will make easy for them the doing of bad deeds that will eventually lead to the Fire. Their wealth, which they so stingily withhold, will not benefit them when they fall down into Hell.
