Introduction of Sura



Names
This surah is called Surat ?Abasa. [471] See: Al-Fayruzabadi: Basa?ir Dhawi At-Tamyiz, 1/501.
Makki or Madani?
Surat ?Abasa is Makki; more than one of the commentators narrated that there was consensus regarding that. [472] Those who narrated that there was consensus regarding that include: Al-Mawardi, Ibn ?Atiyyah and Al-Qurtubi. Objectives
The most important objectives of this surah include:
Highlighting the message of the Qur?an, the honoured status of the one who benefits from it, and the wretched status of the one who turns away from it. [473] See: Al-Mukhtasar fi Tafsir Al-Qur?an Al-Karim, p. 585.

The most significant topics addressed in Surat ?Abasa include:
Allah?s gentle rebuke to His Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) for the way in which he dealt with the blind man Ibn Umm Maktum.

Establishing proof of Allah?s oneness, by mentioning the origin of man, the blessings that Allah bestows upon him and His making available to him the means of life.
