Introduction of Sura


Names:
This surah is called Surat Abasa. [471] See: Al-Fayruzabadi: Basa?ir Dhawi At-Tamyiz, 1/501.

Makki or Madani?
Surat Abasa is Makki; more than one of the commentators narrated that there was consensus regarding that. [472] Those who narrated that there was consensus regarding that include: Al-Mawardi, Ibn ?Atiyyah and Al-Qurtubi. Objectives:
The most important objectives of this surah include:
Highlighting the message of the Quran, the honoured status of the one who benefits from it, and the wretched status of the one who turns away from it. [473] See: Al-Mukhtasar fi Tafsir Al-Qur?an Al-Karim, p. 585.

Topics:
The most significant topics addressed in Surat Abasa include:

1- Allah's gentle rebuke to His Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) for the way in which he dealt with the blind man Ibn Umm Maktum.
2- Praise for the Quran, and that it is a reminder and exhortation to those who think and reflect.
3- Establishing proof of Allah's oneness, by mentioning the origin of man, the blessings that Allah bestows upon him and His making available to him the means of life.
4- A reminder of the terrors of the Day of Resurrection and the states in which people will find themselves on that day.
