Introduction of Sura



Names
This surah is called Surat Al-Fajr. [516] See: Al-Fayruzabadi: Basa?ir Dhawi At-Tamyiz, 1/518; Tafsir Ibn ?Ashur, 30/311.
Makki or Madani?
Surat Al-Fajr is Makki, and it was narrated that there was consensus regarding that. [517] Those who narrated that there was consensus regarding that include: Ibn Al-Jawzi and Ash-Shawkani. See: Tafsir Ibn Al-Jawzi, 4/437; Ash-Shawkani: Fat-h Al-Qadir, 5/526.

The surah begins with an oath sworn by five noble things.
A reminder to the polytheists of what befell the disbelievers who came before them, such as the people of ?Ad, Thamud and Pharaoh.
Highlighting man?s attitude in wealth and in poverty; pointing out that having many blessings and enjoying a life of ease is not indicative of Allah?s honouring a person, and poverty is not indicative of His humiliating him.
A description of the Day of Resurrection and the terrors that will occur on that Day, on which man will regret his heedlessness.
