Names
This surah is called Surat At-Tin and is also called Surat Wa?t-tin. [540] See: Al-Fayruzabadi: Basa?ir Dhawi At-Tamyiz, 1/527; Tafsir Ibn ?Ashur, 30/419.
It is also called ?At-Tini wa?z-zaytun (the fig and the olive)? At-Tin 95.
It was narrated that Al-Bara? ibn ?Azib (may Allah be pleased with them) said: I heard the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) reciting in ?Isha? ? (the fig and the olive)? At-Tin 95, and I have never heard anyone with a more beautiful voice than him. [541] Narrated by Muslim, 464.
Makki or Madani?
Surat At-Tin is Makki, and it was narrated that there was consensus regarding that. [542] Those who narrated that there was consensus regarding that include Al-Biqa?i, and Ibn Al-Jawzi attributed that view to the majority of scholars.
