Overall meaning : We have sent you, Muhammad, as a witness, a bearer of good news to those who obey you, and a warner against punishment to those who disobey you, so that you, people, may believe in Allah and His Messenger, support and honour him, and glorify Allah, declaring Him exalted above all defects and imperfections, morning and evening.
Those who swear allegiance to you, Muhammad, at Al-Hudaybiyyah not to flee from the battlefield when they encounter the unbelieving enemies are actually pledging allegiance to Allah Himself: Allah’s hand is above their hands. Whoever, therefore, breaks his pledge does so only to his own hurt, as he becomes deserving of punishment; but whoever fulfils his pledge to Allah will be richly rewarded by Him.
