Overall meaning : Is it not time for true believers’ hearts to soften and be humbled at the remembrance of Allah and the Qur’an that has been sent down, and not be like the Jews and Christians who were given the Scriptures before the Qur’an, whose hearts have hardened with the passage of time? Many of them are disobedient evildoers.
Know that Allah brings the earth back to life with water after its death and hardness. Thus does He revive the heart after its hardness with His revelations. We have made Our signs bearing witness to Our power clear to you, so that you may understand them and pay heed.
Those men and women, who give in charity and spend part of their wealth in the cause of Allah—thereby seeking Allah’s good pleasure, without following up what they spend with reminders of their generosity or with injury—will be rewarded many times over for whatever they spend, and they have a rich and honourable reward.
Those who believe in Allah and His messengers are the truthful. The martyrs who are killed fighting in Allah’s cause will receive their reward from Allah in the hereafter, and they will have their light. As for those who deny Allah and His messengers, they will be the dwellers of Hell.
