Overall meaning : Many were those past communities who rebelled against the commandments of Allah and His messengers, and so He called them to a severe account and inflicted a terrible punishment on them. Thus they tasted the evil consequences of their misdeeds, and their end was utter loss. Allah has prepared a severe punishment for them in the life to come; therefore, fear Allah and beware of His wrath and punishment, you who are endowed with good sense and have believed.
Allah has now sent down to you, believers, the Great Qur’an and has sent forth His Messenger, Muhammad, reciting to you the verses of the Qur’an which make right guidance and the truth abundantly clear, so that He may lead the faithful who do good deeds from darkness into light.
Allah will admit those who believe in Him and do good deeds into gardens beneath which rivers flow, where they will abide for ever. Allah will have granted them a most excellent provision of food and drink, and the all sorts of delightful provisions He will grant His righteous servants in it.
It is Allah alone who has created seven heavens one above another, and earths as many: seven earths one above another. His command descends through the heavens and the earths, and He has informed you of this, so that you may know full well that Allah has perfect power over all things, and that He has perfect knowledge of all things.
