Overall meaning : Believers, guard yourselves—by acquiring beneficial knowledge and doing good deeds—and your families—by teaching them and giving them good counsel—against a Fire whose fuel is people and stones, over which are appointed stern and mighty angels who never disobey Allah’s commands but do as they are commanded.
Disbelievers, make no excuses for yourselves today (the Day of Judgement). You are only repaid according to the deeds you used to do in the life of the world.
Believers, turn to Allah in sincere repentance. Your Lord will pardon you your sins and admit you into Gardens under which rivers flow, on the day when Allah will not disgrace the Prophet and those who believe with him. Their light will, on Resurrection Day, run before them and on their right. ‘Lord,’ they will pray, ‘perfect our light for us, forgive us our sins and save us from their evil. You have power over all things.’
Prophet, strive hard against the unbelievers and the hypocrites, and be firm with them in word and deed. Hell will be their home in the hereafter—an evil destination indeed!
