Name
This surah is called Surat Ad-Duha. It is also called Wa?l-duha (By the morning brightness). [533] See: Tafsir Ibn ?Ashur, 30/393. See also: Sunan At-Tirmidhi, 5/442; Sahih Al-Bukhari, 6/172.
It was narrated that Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Mu?adh stood up to pray ?Isha? and made it lengthy. The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: ?Are you causing trouble, O Mu?adh? Why don?t you recite Sabbih isma rabbik Al-a?la (Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High) Al-A ?la 87, or Wa?l-duha (By the morning brightness) Ad-Duha 93, or Idha As-Sama?u infatarat (When the sky breaks apart) Al-Infitar 82?? [534] Narrated by An-Nasa?i, 997.
Makki or Madani?
Surat Ad-Duha is Makki; more than one of the commentators narrated that there was consensus regarding that. [535] Those who narrated that there was consensus regarding that include: Ibn ?Atiyyah, Ibn Al-Jawzi and Al-Qurtubi.
