Overall meaning : Believers, if a wicked evildoer brings you any piece of news, ascertain its truth first, lest you should wrong people unintentionally by believing the report without verifying it and then regret what you have done.
Keep in mind, Companions of the Prophet, that Allah’s Messenger is among you. If he were to follow your opinions and desires in many matters, you would surely suffer a great deal of hardship. But as it is Allah has endeared the faith to you and made it pleasing and appealing to your hearts, and He has made unbelief, wickedness and sins hateful to you. Therefore, give thanks to Allah for that, and just follow the instructions of Allah and His Messenger without placing your opinions ahead of their decisions. It is people with such noble qualities who are rightly guided. Allah has done all this for them through His grace and bounty. Allah is All-knowing, All-Wise.
