Overall meaning : I swear by the sky with its great constellations, and by the promised Day of Resurrection and by the witness and what is witnessed that the Makers of the Ditch are destroyed and expelled from Allah’s mercy—those unbelievers who dug a massive ditch into the ground, ignited a great blazing fire in it. They were expelled from Allah’s mercy when they seated themselves around the ditch, watching the believers being burnt in it!
The unbelievers hated and tortured these believing men and women for no reason other than that they had believed in Allah, the All-Mighty, the Praiseworthy with regard to all His attributes and deeds, to whom the dominion of the heavens and the earth and everything they contain belongs. Allah is witness over all things.
