Hud - سورة هود
Introduction of Sura


Names:
This surah is called Surat Hud. [111] See: Al-Fayruzabadi: Basa?ir Dhawi At-Tamyiz, 1/246; Tafsir Ibn ?Ashur, 11/311.
It was narrated that ?Uqbah ibn ?Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, teach me Surat Hud and Surat Yusuf ? [112] Narrated by An-Nasa?i, 953; Ahmad, 17418; Ibn Hibban, 1842; Al-Hakim, 3988.

Makki or Madani?
Surat Hud is Makki, and it was narrated that there was consensus on that. [113] Those who narrated that there was consensus on that include: Al-Fayruzabadi, Al-Biqa?i, and Muhammad Rashid Rida. Objectives:
The most important objectives of Surat Hud include:
1- Highlighting the way in which the messengers (peace be upon them) confronted the disbelievers.
2- Reassuring and consoling the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). [114] See: Tafsir Ibn ?Ashur, 11/313.

Topics:
The most significant topics addressed in Surat Hud include:
1- Pointing out the great status of the Holy Quran, and establishing proof that it is from Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted.
2- Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, is aware of what is hidden in people's minds and hearts, and He has guaranteed provision to all creation.
3- Affirmation of the resurrection and requital.
4- Explaining people's attitude and behaviour at times of ease and hardship.
5- Reassuring and consoling the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) for what the polytheists said and their stubborn attitude in demanding signs and miracles.
6- Explaining the attitude of the disbelievers and the believers, and giving likenesses for both.
7- Mentioning some stories of the Prophets and details of some events and what happened with their people; this includes the stories of Nuh, Hud, Salih, Ibrahim, Lut, Shu'ayb, and Musa (peace be upon them).
8- Pointing out what will bring happiness, such as adhering steadfastly to faith, not inclining towards and keeping a distance from oppressors and wrongdoers, and establishing prayer.
9- The benefit of stories and narrating accounts of the messengers in reassuring the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him).
10- The surah ends with the command to put one's trust in Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, in all circumstances.
