Overall meaning : The Almighty affirms that no one is more wicked and does greater wrong than those who forge lies and attribute them to Allah. These, He states, will be brought before their Lord on Judgement Day to judge them for their deeds; and the witnesses from the angels, the prophets and the believers will say, 'These are they who lied about their Lord in the life of the world.’ Now, surely, Allah will exclude them from His grace and mercy these wrongdoers, who turn people from Allah’s true religion, seek to make it look crooked so that people would not follow it, and who disbelieve in the life to come and the consequent resurrection and divine judgement. They can by no means escape Allah’s punishment in this life if He wishes to inflict it on them, and they will have no supporters to protect them against it. Their torment in Hell will be doubled for them for having been unwilling to listen to the Qur’an to benefit from it and for having been averse to seeing and reflecting on Allah’s signs in this universe so they might be guided to the truth. These are they who have brought ruin upon themselves for forging lies about Allah, and the false gods they claim would intercede with Allah for them will fail them and will not be there to help them or benefit them in any way. Without a doubt, they will be the worst losers of all people in the hereafter for having chosen the lowest depths of Hell instead of the high degrees of honour in Paradise. Having Hell as their eternal abode will indeed be a loss beyond compare.
As for those that believe and do righteous deeds and humble themselves before their Lord, they will be the inhabitants of Paradise for all eternity. They will never die in it, nor will they ever be brought out of it.
Allah Almighty then sets forth a parable to depict the case of the unbelievers and the believers, saying: These two groups are like the blind and the deaf in comparison to those who can see and hear well: The unbelievers cannot possibly see the truth to follow it, nor can they hear the caller to Allah to be guided by him, as opposed to the believers who have seen the truth and heard the caller to Allah and followed him. Can they be alike at all? Will you not, then, reflect and pay heed?
