Overall meaning :
Allah, Exalted be He, opens this surah by praising Himself, saying: Exalted is Allah, perfect are His attributes, numerous are His favours and endless are His blessings! It is He who has sent down the Qur’an that distinguishes truth from falsehood, verse after verse and surah after surah, to His servant Muhammed to be a warner to all mankind and the jinn. It is He alone to whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and He does not have offspring, nor does He have a partner in His kingdom; and He has created all things and ordained them precisely in due proportions, in accordance with His absolute wisdom and perfect design.
Then He points out the idolaters’ deviation from the right path, saying: The idolaters have taken besides Allah false deities that cannot create anything but are themselves created. They have no power whatsoever to avert harm or benefit themselves, nor can they cause anyone to die, bring him to life or resurrect him after his death!
