Overall meaning :
Allah Almighty mentions yet a third misconception that the idolaters put forward: The unbelievers of the Quraysh sarcastically say, ‘What kind of messenger is Muhammad who eats food and walks in the markets to earn a living, just like us?! Why has Allah not sent him an angel from heaven to testify to his truthfulness and warn people along with him if he is indeed truthful? Why has he not been given a treasure from which to spend and thus spare him the trouble of gaining a livelihood, or a garden to provide his sustenance?’ These idolaters also say, ‘You only follow a bewitched man. He is by no means a messenger.’
Then, scoffing at their absurd demands and consoling His Messenger, He says: See, Muhammad, how these idolaters give you these descriptions and make such false and contradictory statements about you, and have thus strayed from the truth and now cannot find a way to it!
Exalted is Allah, perfect are His attributes, numerous are His favours and endless are His favours! If He wills, He can give you in this world, Muhammad, far better than what these idolaters suggest: gardens underneath whose trees rivers flow and magnificent mansions.
