Overall meaning :
Allah, Glory be to Him, relates what Abraham’s people said to him, what reply he gave them and the grace Allah bestowed upon him: His people’s only reply when he called them to worship Allah alone was, ‘Kill Abraham or burn him,’ but Allah saved him from the fire by His power. Surely in this there are signs of Allah’s power for true believers.
Abraham said to his people, ‘You have chosen to worship idols instead of Allah only to maintain the bond of love and affection amongst yourselves in this worldly life, but on the Day of Resurrection you will disown and curse one another. All ties of affection that you now have will then be severed; your final abode will be Hell, and you will have no supporters to protect you against Allah’s punishment.’
Lot believed the truth Abraham had brought, and Abraham said, ‘I am leaving this place for the sake of my Lord, leaving behind the land of my idolatrous people to a land where I can worship Allah. My Lord is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.’
We granted Abraham, after he had emigrated from the land of his people, his son Isaac and grandson Jacob, and We bestowed upon Abraham’s descendants prophethood and sent down books to them. We gave him his reward for his work in this life, and in the life to come he will surely be among the righteous.
