Overall meaning :
Allah Almighty says: the unbelievers say, out of sheer stubbornness and denial of the truth, ‘We will by no means believe in this Qur’an that Muhammad has brought, nor in the Torah and the Gospel that came before it.’ If you could see those who associate partners with Allah when they are detained and made to stand in the Plain of Gathering for judgement before their Lord, hurling reproaches at one another, you would perceive something truly dreadful and terrifying! The followers who were deemed weak will say to their arrogant leaders, ‘Had it not been for you who led us astray in the life of the world, we would certainly have been believers.’ The arrogant leaders will disapprovingly say to those who were deemed weak, ‘Did we really prevent you from accepting the truth after it had come to you? No, indeed; you yourselves were wrongdoers and you acted wickedly of your own choice.’
‘By no means,’ the followers who were deemed weak will reply. ‘What kept us away from the truth was your scheming, day and night, making falsehood seem fair to us and the truth repugnant and ordering us to disbelieve in Allah and set up rivals and partners to Him.’ They will all hide their remorse when they see the punishment; and We will put shackles around the necks of the unbelievers. They will be repaid only according to their deeds.
