Overall meaning : The people of Noah denied the truth before the Quraysh idolaters, and so did ‘Aad, the people of Hud; Pharaoh who built the mighty structures; Thamud, the people of Salih; the people of Lot and the dwellers of the Thicket, to whom Shu’ayb was sent—such were the parties that joined forces to support unbelief and oppose their messengers. They all denied the messengers, and so My punishment was justly inflicted on them. The Quraysh idolaters are only awaiting a single mighty blast to be blown by Israafeel on the Trumpet, which will not be delayed. They mockingly say, ‘Lord, hasten for us our share of punishment before the Day of Resurrection.’
