Overall meaning : As for the unbelievers they will be reproachfully told on Resurrection Day, ‘Were the verses of the Qur’an not recited to you in the worldly life, and yet you disdained to believe them and you were a wicked people?! When you were told, “Allah’s promise is true and the Day of Resurrection, about which there is no doubt, will inevitably take place,” you mockingly said, out of sheer unbelief, “We do not know what the Day of Resurrection is. It is but a vain conjecture, nor are we convinced it will ever take place.”’
The evil deeds they have committed in this life will, on that day, become obvious to them, and Allah’s punishment which they used to ridicule will descend upon them! They will be told, ‘Today We will abandon you in Hell as you abandoned faith and righteous deeds in the life of the world, willfully forgetting about this day. Your abode is the Fire, and you have no helpers whatsoever to protect you against Allah’s punishment! That is because you made a mockery of Allah’s revelations and allowed the life of this world to beguile you.’
Therefore, from that day on, these wicked unbelievers will not be brought out of the Fire, nor will they be given a chance to please their Lord and make amends.
