Overall meaning : Or do these idolaters hold the keys to the treasures of your Lord’s mercy, Muhammad, or are they the ones who have absolute control of all affairs?! Or do they have a ladder whereby they ascend to the heavens to listen to Our revelations?! Let, then, their listeners bring clear evidence to prove what they claim they have listened to. Or does Allah have daughters while you, idolaters, have sons, as you falsely claim?!
Or are you, Muhammad, asking them for any payment for your conveying the message, which they find too hard to meet and so they do not respond to you?! Or do they have knowledge of the unseen which they can write down?! Or are they devising an evil scheme in their attempt to refute the truth?! It is the unbelievers who will fall victim to their evil schemes. Or do they have a deity that is worthy of worship other than Allah which they worship?! Exalted be Allah above anything they associate with Him!
