Overall meaning : But as for those who are given their records of deeds in their left hands, they will remorsefully say, ‘I wish I had not been given my record of evil deeds, nor known anything about my account! If only death in the worldly life had really been the end. All the wealth that I amassed in the life of the world has not availed me or protected me from Allah’s punishment! All my power is now gone.’
‘Lay hold of them and bind their hands to their necks,’ Allah will then command His angels. ‘Then cast them into the fire of Hell to be burned, and then fasten them with a chain seventy cubits long; for, in the worldly life, they did not believe in Allah, the All-Mighty, nor did they urge others to feed the destitute. So today they will have no close friends to benefit them and save them from punishment, nor any food except puss flowing from the bodies of the dwellers of the Fire, which none will eat but the unbelievers who deliberately persist in their unbelief and sin.’
