Al-Hijr - سورة الحجر
Introduction of Sura
Names:
This surah is called Surat Al-Hijr. [133] See: Al-Fayruzabadi: Basa?ir Dhawi At-Tamyiz, 1/272; Tafsir Ibn ?Ashur, 14/5.
Makki or Madani?
Surat Al-Hijr is Makki, and more than one of the scholars narrated that there was consensus on that. [134] Those who narrated that there was consensus regarding that and said that there was no difference of opinion include: At-Tha?labi, Ibn ?Atiyyah and Ibn Al-Jawzi. Objectives:
The most important objectives of Surat Al-Hijr include:
1- Reassuring the believers.
2- Highlighting the nature of the disbelievers who rejected the truth and the motives for their rejection; and the terrifying fate that awaits them.
Topics:
The most significant topics addressed in Surat Al-Hijr include:
1- Highlighting the virtue and status of the Quran, as Allah has promised to preserve it; highlighting the bad fate of the disbelievers who turn away from the call of truth out of stubbornness and denial.
2- Mentioning some of the evidence for the oneness and might of Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, and what He has bestowed of blessings on all of His creation.
3- Telling the story of the creation of Adam (peace be upon him); the command to the angels to prostrate to him and their complying with that command; the arrogance of Iblis alone and his refusal to do that, and his expulsion from Paradise.
4- Mentioning some aspects of the stories of the prophets of Allah: Ibrahim, Lut, Shu'ayb, and Salih (peace be upon them).
5- Consoling the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and reassuring him in response to what he was facing from his people.
