Introduction of Sura



Names
This surah is called Surat Az-Zukhruf. [283] See: Al-Fayruzabadi: Basa?ir Dhawi At-Tamyiz, 1/421; Tafsir Ibn ?Ashur, 25/157.
Virtues and characteristics
It was narrated that Al-Muhallab ibn Abi Sufrah said: Someone who heard the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) told me that he said: ?If you are attacked at night, let your watchword be Ha-Mim; they will not prevail.? [284] Narrated via Abu Dawud, 2597; At-Tirmidhi, 1682; Ahmad, 16615.
Makki or Madani?
Surat Az-Zukhruf is Makki, and it was narrated that there was consensus regarding that. [285] Those who narrated that there was consensus regarding that include: Ibn ?Atiyyah, Ibn Al-Jawzi and Al-Qurtubi. See: Tafsir Ibn ?Atiyyah, 5/40; Tafsir Ibn Al-Jawzi, 4/72; Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, 16/61.
Objectives
The most important objectives of Surat Az-Zukhruf include:

Consoling the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) for what he faced of trouble and annoyance from the polytheists. [287] Op. cit.
