Introduction of Sura


Names:
This surah is called Surat Ad-Dhariyat. [333] See: Al-Fayruzabadi: Basa?ir Dhawi At-Tamyiz, 1/439; Tafsir Ibn ?Ashur, 26/335.

Makki or Madani?
Surat Ad-Dhariyat is Makki; more than one of the commentators narrated that there was consensus regarding that. [334] Those who narrated that there was consensus regarding that include: Ibn ?Atiyyah, Ibn Al-Jawzi and Al-Qurtubi. Objectives:
The most important objectives of this surah include:
Establishing proof that worship should only be devoted to Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, alone, and that the resurrection is true. [335] See: Tafsir Ibn ?Ashur, 26/335; At-Tantawi: At-Tafsir Al-Wasit, 14/7.

Topics:
The most significant topics addressed in Surat Ad-Dhariyat include:

1- The surah begins with an oath in which Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, swears by some of His creation that the resurrection and the requital are both true.
2- Refuting the claims of the disbelievers and warning them of the punishment of Hell.
3- Explaining what Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, has prepared for His righteous slaves.
4- Some of the stories of the Prophets: Ibrahim, Lut, Hud, Salih, Musa and Nuh (peace be upon them).
5- Mention of that which proves the perfect nature of Allah?s might and the vastness of His mercy.
6- Affirmation that Allah only created the jinn and humankind to worship Him.
7- Warning the polytheists that they will have a share of punishment like that of their counterparts among the earlier disbelievers.
8- Warning the disbelievers of their day that they have been promised (the Day of Judgement).
