Overall meaning : The Almighty says: The unbelievers before the Quraysh idolaters also plotted against their messengers, but Allah stuck their edifice at its very foundations, and the roof caved in on top of them, and so Allah destroyed them and His punishment came upon them suddenly from where they did not expect. Then, on Judgement Day, He will disgrace them and rebukingly say, ‘Where are those you claimed are my partners and you used to worship besides Me and oppose Me and My believing servants for their sake? Let them protect you now from punishment.’
Those endowed with knowledge will say, ‘This day humiliation and misery will surely befall the unbelievers.’ Those whose souls the angels take while still wronging themselves due to unbelief and disobedience will make full submission, saying, ‘We did not deny Allah, nor did we disobey Him nor did we do any wrong.’ It will be said to them, ‘Yes, you did. Allah has full knowledge of all that you did, and He will repay you according to your actions. Enter, therefore, the gates of Hell to remain in it for ever: evil indeed is the abode of the arrogant who are too proud to believe in Allah and worship Him alone!’
