Overall meaning : Numerous indeed were the past unbelieving nations that We destroyed before the Quraysh unbelievers! They were far more powerful than them, cultivated the land more and developed it more than these have ever developed it, but all that did not protect them against Allah’s punishment when it descended upon them! Likewise, your strength, people of Quraysh, will by no means save you against Allah’s punishment if you obstinately persist in your unbelief.
Surely in this there is a lesson and a reminder for everyone who has a mind to reason and reflect with and who is present with an attentive mind when listening to Allah’s revelations.
We created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them in six days, and We were not affected by fatigue at all. Therefore, patiently endure the hurtful words that the unbelievers say to you, Muhammad, and extol your Lord’s limitless glory—declaring Him free from all defects and imperfections—before sunrise and before sunset; and in the night, too, extol His glory, and after the prayers.
