Introduction of Sura



Names
This surah is called Surat Ta-Ha. [168] See: Al-Fayruzabadi: Basa?ir Dhawi At-Tamyiz, 1/311.
The evidence for that includes:
It was narrated that Ibn Mas?ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Bani Isra?il, Al-Kahf, Maryam, Ta-Ha and Al-Anbiya? are among the earliest surahs and are among the first surahs that I learned. [169] Narrated by Al-Bukhari, 4739.
Virtues and characteristics
It is one of the earliest surahs to be revealed and was one of the first to be memorized and learned by the Companions, as was mentioned in the report of ?Abdullah ibn Mas?ud (may Allah be pleased with him) quoted above.
Makki or Madani?
Surat Ta-Ha is Makki, and it was narrated that there was consensus regarding that. [170] Those who narrated that there was consensus concerning that include Ibn Al-Jawzi, Al-Qurtubi and Abu Hayyan. See: Tafsir Ibn Al-Jawzi, 3/150; Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, 11/163; Tafsir Abi Hayyan, 7/308.

The most important objectives of this surah include:
Highlighting Allah?s care for those who are chosen to convey the message, namely the Messengers and their followers. [171] Al-Biqa?i: Nazm Ad-Durar, 12/255.

The most significant topics addressed in Surat Ta-Ha include:
The greatness of the Holy Qur?an and that it was sent down from Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted,.
Details of the story of Musa (peace be upon him), his being sent to Pharaoh and the debate that took place between them; the story of the magicians and how it ended; what the Israelites did in the absence of Musa and how As-Samiri misled them.
The requital of those who turn away from the Holy Qur?an and some of the events of the Day of Resurrection.
The status of the Qur?an, and that it was revealed in Arabic, and Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, gave all kinds of warnings in it.
The story of the creation of Adam (peace be upon him).
The command to the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) to do several things, including: showing patience; remembering Allah a great deal; not looking at the glamour of the life of this world; instructing his family to pray.
Refutation of the claims made by the polytheists, and warning them of bad consequences if they persisted in their misguidance.
