Introduction of Sura



Names


This surah is called Surat Fatir. [249] See: Tafsir Al-Qasimi, 8/158; Tafsir Ibn ?Ashur, 22/247.


Makki or Madani?


Surat Fatir is Makki; more than one of the commentators narrated that there was consensus regarding that. [250] Those who narrated that there was consensus regarding that include: Ibn Al-Jawzi, Al-Qurtubi and Al-Fayrazabadi. Objectives


The most important objectives of this surah include:
Affirming the oneness of Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, by reminding of His blessings that are to found throughout the universe. [251] See: Tafsir Ibn ?Ashur, 22/247, 248; At-Tantawi: At-Tafsir Al-Wasit, 11/317.
Affirming the perfect might of Allah, which includes His power to resurrect all creatures. [252] See: Al-Biqa?i: Masa?id An-Nazr, 2/384.
Affirming the truthfulness of the Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). [253] See: Tafsir Ibn ?Ashur, 22/248.

The most significant topics addressed in Surat Fatir include:
The surah begins with praise of Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted,, His creation of the heavens and the earth, His making the angels messengers with wings, and affirmation of His power over all things.
Some of the manifestations of His power to create and the blessings that He bestows upon His slaves.
Consoling and reassuring the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) by describing what the earlier prophets went through.
Warning against being deceived by this world and being deceived by the whispers of the Shaytan.
Highlighting the reward of the believers and the punishment of the disbelievers.
Allah reminds us of the blessing of sending the wind, sending down rain and reviving the dead earth, and what there is in that of proof of the resurrection.

Affirming that no one can bear another?s burden; those who benefit from the warning are those who fear and obey Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted,.
Giving likenesses of the believer and the disbeliever, and the one who is ignorant and the one who has knowledge.
Affirming the role of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and consoling him by telling him of what the previous messengers faced, and the fate of those who disbelieved in them.
Calling people to reflect on this universe, Allah?s sending down the rain from the sky, and the bringing forth of fruits of various colours; and to reflect on the mountains and their various colours; and people, animals and livestock, and their many colours; affirmation that those who have knowledge are the ones who truly fear Allah.
The virtue of those who recite the Qur?an, establish prayer and spend secretly and openly.
Affirming that this Book that has been sent down is the truth which confirms the Books that came down before it; Allah caused to inherit the Book those whom He chose; the different degrees of commitment among those who inherited the Book; what awaits them of eternal bliss; the contrast between them and the disbelievers and their punishment.
The foolish beliefs and practices of the polytheists, as they worship besides Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, that which has no power to harm or benefit; their evil plotting which affects none but its authors; and their breaking of their covenants.
The surah ends by stating that Allah?s mercy encompasses all people.
