Overall meaning :
Regarding those Jews who conceal the truth about Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, whose prophethood is confirmed in the Torah, and also conceal some of Allah’s rulings about it by altering them to seek thereby wealth and position among other paltry worldly gains, Allah Almighty states that, as punishment for concealing such knowledge, they will fill their bellies with nothing but fire which they will have to consume, the Almighty will not speak graciously to them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He cleanse them of their sins, nor praise them, and they will, in addition to all this, suffer an agonizing punishment.
Those who conceal knowledge have, by so doing, exchanged the path of Allah’s guidance for the path of error and Allah’s forgiveness for His punishment. Allah Almighty wonders, by way of rebuke, at their audacity to do so when they know that such act will land them in the Fire and also wonders at their dogged persistence in committing such a sin when they are certain this will eventually lead to a severe punishment.
They justly deserve such punishment for concealing the truth, because Allah Almighty revealed His book to them with the truth, and so they should make the truth it contains known and not attempt to conceal it. Indeed, hiding the truth is clearly at variance with Allah’s purpose for sending down the book to them in the first place.
Allah Almighty then declares that those who believe some parts of the revealed Scripture and reject other parts of it and conceal a part of it and reveal another part have surely strayed far away from the truth.
