Overall meaning : All this is ordained by Allah; therefore, venerate His commandments. Those who venerate Allah’s commandments and honour His sacred rites, including the pilgrimage rites, by duly performing them for His sake alone, will fare better in the sight of their Lord both in this life and the hereafter.
The flesh of grazing livestock is lawful for you, except for that which He has already mentioned to you in the Qur’an as unlawful (such as the flesh of animals that die of themselves). Avoid the abomination of idol-worship, and avoid telling falsehoods and attributing anything to Allah without knowledge, sincerely dedicated to Allah and worshipping none besides Him. Whoever associates anyone or anything with Allah is further away from right guidance and is doomed to perdition by plummeting from the lofty heights of faith to the lowest depths of unbelief, being snatched by the devils from all sides. His case is like that of someone who has fallen from the heavens: He is either snatched off by birds of prey that cut him into pieces or is swept away by the wind to some deep, far-off place.
Such is Allah’s command to you to declare His oneness and worship Him sincerely. Whoever obeys Allah’s commands and honours the sacred rites of the religion, including the sacrificial animals—by choosing a well-favoured, fat and costly one, for instance—shows the piety of his heart. You can continue to benefit from such sacrificial animals—by using their milk and wool and even riding them if they are reasonably fit for such purpose—until the time of their sacrifice in the vicinity of the Ancient House.
