Overall meaning : The Almighty says: And We inspired the mother of Moses, saying, ‘Nurse Moses for now, but if you fear that Pharaoh and his forces would do him any harm, place him in a chest and cast him into the River Nile. Do not entertain the fear that Moses will drown, and do not grieve for being separated from him. We will return him to you and make him one of the messengers.’
Some of Pharaoh’s household picked him up only to become their adversary and a source of grief for them, as their kingdom would be destroyed at his hands. Indeed, Pharaoh, Haman and their forces were disobedient sinners.
Pharaoh’s wife said, ‘This child will be a source of delight for us both, Pharaoh. Do not kill him; he may well be of use to us, or we may adopt him as our son.’ But Pharaoh and his people did not know that their own destruction would be at the hands of this child! Moses’s mother felt such a great emptiness in heart—she could think of none but him—that she almost disclosed his identity had We not strengthened her heart, so that she would be of those who believe Our promise.
She said to his sister: ‘Go, and keep track of him.’ So she secretly watched him from a distance, while they were not aware that she was his sister and that she was even watching him. And We caused Moses to refuse all the wet nurses’ breasts, so his sister said to Pharaoh’s family, ‘Shall I direct you a household that will feed this child for you and take good care of him?’ Thus did We restore Moses to his mother, so that she would be comforted and grieve no more for being separated from him, and so that she would know that Allah’s promise is true; but most of them do not know that Allah’s promise is always true.
