Overall meaning : The Almighty says: When Moses attained his full strength and maturity, We bestowed on him wisdom and knowledge before his prophethood. Thus do We reward those who do good. One day Moses entered the city at a time when he was unnoticed by its people, and he found two men fighting, one of them was of his own people—an Israelite—while the other was a native Copt belonging to the people of Pharaoh. The Israelite appealed for Moses’s help against his Coptic enemy, so Moses struck the Copt down with his fist and killed him!
‘Such act of killing is of Satan’s doing and evil whispers,’ he said. ‘He is clearly an outright and sworn enemy to man and only seeks to lead him astray.’ He then prayed, ‘My Lord, I have wronged myself, so forgive me my sin.’ Allah forgave him his sin, for He is the All-Forgiving, the All-Merciful. He added, ‘My Lord, because of the favours that You have bestowed upon me, I will never give help to wrongdoers.’
