Overall meaning :
Respond to your Lord, people, by doing what His Messenger calls you to, before the Day of Resurrection comes, which cannot be averted against Allah’s will. There will be no place for you on that day in which to take refuge, nor will you have someone to denounce what will happen to you or protect you against it, nor will you be able to deny your sins or the just recompense you will receive for your deeds. If the idolaters turn away in aversion from your call, Muhammad, know that We have not sent you to be their keeper—to take account of their deeds and thus judge them according to their actions. Your only duty is to convey your Lord’s message to them.
When We bestow a certain blessing on man (such as abundant wealth), he rejoices in it and feels pleased with it; but when misfortune befalls him because of his sins, he becomes ungrateful to Allah for His blessings upon him.
To Allah alone belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He creates whatever He wills. He gives daughters to whomever He wills and sons to whomever He pleases, or He gives both sons and daughters to whomever he wills and He makes whomever he wishes sterile. He knows everything and has power over all things.
