Overall meaning :
Allah Almighty declares that He is the sole possessor of the heavens and the earth and everything in them, and that He has absolute power over all things.
He also calls our attention to His omnipotence, stating that in His creation of the heavens and the earth out of nothing, His perfect and superb creation of everything in them, the precise and perfect laws He has placed in them, and in the alternation of night and day are all clear signs testifying to His self-existent Being and His lofty attributes for those who are possessed of good sense and understanding: those who always remember Allah under all circumstances, standing, sitting and lying down, and reflect on the creation of the heavens and earth, and address Allah, saying, ‘Lord, You have not created all this in vain. Exalted are You above such a thing! Save us from the torment of the Fire. Lord, You will surely bring to disgrace those whom You condemn to enter the Fire. The wrongdoers will have no helpers whatsoever. Lord, we have heard your Prophet, Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, calling us to believe in You, and we have favourably responded to his call. Lord, forgive us our sins, conceal our misdeeds and erase our wrongdoings by virtue of our faith in You and our following Your Prophet, and take us to You, when You cause us to die, only as righteous believers. Lord, grant us all that You have promised us through Your messengers, and do not hold us up to shame by divulging our sins before all assembled mankind on the Day of Judgement. You never ever break Your promise.’
Allah states that He has answered all their prayers and He will not let the deeds of any one of them go to waste, male or female—for they are both the same in that respect. Those, therefore, who have left their homelands and migrated to the land of faith to safeguard their faith and avoid persecution, or have been driven out of their homes by the idolaters who ascribe partners to Allah, and have been persecuted for His cause, and have fought and been slain, He will surely wipe away their sins and admit them into gardens under which rivers flow—a reward from Allah for what they have done and for the enormous sacrifices they have made. Allah has the richest rewards.
