Overall meaning : Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, mentions and refutes some of the false claims made by the idolaters of Makkah, who deny the resurrection and divine judgement on Resurrection Day: ‘What!’ they say, denying resurrection ‘After we are but bones and dust, will we then be brought back to life again?!’ Say to them, Muhammad, ‘Be stones or iron, if you could, or indeed any other form of creation which you deem impossible to be brought back to life: Allah will still resurrect you.’ They will mockingly say, still denying resurrection, ‘Who will bring us back to life again?’ Say to them, ‘Allah who brought you out of nothing into being in the first place will restore you to life.’ They will then wag their heads derisively at you and ask, still denying it, ‘When will it happen?’ Say, ‘Soon. The resurrection that you deny will take place on the day your Lord will call you to come out of your graves for judgement and you will instantly respond by praising Him, thinking you stayed in the world only for a little while.’
