Overall meaning : This is a surah which We have revealed, made clear in it some commands and prohibitions, ordained in it certain obligations and legal punishments, made the strict observance of rulings laid down in it obligatory and revealed in it manifest verses clarifying the truth, so that you may remember these verses, be admonished by them and follow their teachings.
A woman and a man guilty of adultery, give each of them one hundred lashes if they are free, unmarried and legally responsible (of sound mind and of majority age), and do not let compassion for them prevent you from carrying out Allah’s law, if you truly believe in Allah and the Last Day. A number of believers must witness their punishment.
An adulterer would marry only an adulteress or an idolatress; and an adulteress would marry only an adulterer or an idolater. This is forbidden to true believers.
