Overall meaning :
Before the unbelievers of your people, Muhammad, We did test Pharaoh and his people. Moses, an honourable messenger, came to them, saying, ‘Free Allah’s servants, the Israelites, from the humiliating torment and let them go with me. I am indeed a trustworthy messenger to you from Allah to deliver to you His message with which He has entrusted me. Do not exalt yourselves in proud defiance against Allah by disbelieving in Him and disobeying His commands. I have come to you with clear authority and a compelling proof testifying to my truthfulness. I have indeed sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. If you do not believe me, then leave me alone.’
But then, when they stubbornly refused to respond to his call and persisted in doing him harm, not even leaving him alone, he eventually called out to his Lord, saying, ‘These are wicked people.’ Allah answered his prayer, saying, ‘Set forth with My servants—the Israelites—by night. Pharaoh and his soldiers will certainly follow you. When you reach the sea and you go through upon dry land after striking it with your rod, leave the sea waters undivided so that they may enter it. Pharaoh and his army are doomed to be drowned in it!’
