Overall meaning : How many gardens and springs Pharaoh and his people left behind after drowning! Many also were the splendid residences and luxuries they enjoyed which they all left behind! Thus did We dispossess them of these blessings and We gave them for an inheritance to the Children of Israel. Neither the heavens nor the earth wept for Pharaoh and his people after their destruction, nor was their punishment delayed once it descended upon them!
We did indeed deliver the Children of Israel from the humiliating torment which Pharaoh inflicted on them. He was truly an arrogant tyrant who transgressed all bounds. We chose them—knowing they were worthy of Our choice and for a purpose known to Us—in preference to all other peoples in their own time, and We showed them miraculous signs which were a clear test for them.
