Overall meaning :
Allah instructs His Prophet, Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to ask the idolaters, 'Can any of your gods, that you associate as partners with Allah and claim they deserve to worshipped besides Him, create anything out of nothing and then bring it to life again if it dies?’ 'Allah alone can create everything out of nothing and bring it to life after it dies whenever He wills.’ Allah enjoins him to tell them. 'How, then, do you turn away from the truth and follow falsehood?!’
He also instructs him to say to them, 'Can any of your gods, that you associate as partners with Allah and claim they are deserving of worship besides Him, guide to the truth?’ 'Allah alone can guide to the truth,’ He enjoins him to say to them. 'Who is more worthy to be followed: Allah who alone can guide to the truth, or those that you ascribe as partners to Him that themselves are in need of guidance, nor can find the right way unless they are guided? What has come over you that you so judge?’
Allah Almighty then explains that by worshipping false deities besides Him, most of these idolaters follow nothing but mere conjecture, without any certainty whatsoever, and He proclaims that conjecture is in no way a substitute for the truth, and that He has full knowledge of everything they do.
