Overall meaning : Allah Almighty orders His Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to say to the idolaters: 'Have you considered the sustenance that Allah has sent down to you, some of which you have made unlawful and some lawful?’ Say to them, 'Has Allah given you permission to do so, or are you inventing lies about Him?!’
Then the Almighty warns them of the terrible fate awaiting them for having the audacity to invent lies about Him. He says: What do those who fabricate lies about Allah think He will do to them on the Day of Judgment for inventing falsehood about Him?! Do they think He will leave them unpunished? By no means. They will receive a severe punishment for their lies. Allah is extremely kind and bountiful to mankind for the numerous bounties He has bestowed on them, including the countless worldly blessings He has given them and showing forbearance to them by not hastening their punishment to afford them the opportunity to repent and turn to Him; however, most of them are not grateful to Him for His goodness.
