Overall meaning :
Then, after the destruction of those communities, We sent forth Our messengers in succession to yet other communities. Whenever a messenger came to his community, they denied him and arrogantly rejected the truth he brought. So We utterly destroyed them, one after another, reducing them to mere tales that people told in their gatherings. Far excluded from Allah’s grace and mercy are the people who refuse to believe!
Then after them We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our miracles and a clear proof to Pharaoh and his chiefs and nobles, but they received them with contempt and refused to believe and accept the truth; for they were a haughty people who mercilessly oppressed the Children of Israel. ‘What!’ Pharaoh and his chiefs said. ‘Are we to believe two human beings like ourselves, when their people are our slaves?’ They denied them, and thus We destroyed them by making them amongst those drowned in the sea.
We gave Moses the Torah, so that his people, the Children of Israel, might be guided to the truth, and We made Jesus son of Mary and his mother a sign of Our power to create whatever We will—having made her conceive him without a father; and We gave them a shelter on high ground, a habitable place affording rest and security with a visible fresh flowing stream.
