Overall meaning : Allah, Exalted be He, says: People ask you, Muhammad, by sheer denial and defiance, about the time the Day of Resurrection will take place. Say, ‘Allah alone has knowledge of it.’ Yet for all you know, Muhammad, its time may well be near at hand.
Allah has expelled the unbelievers from His mercy and prepared for them a blazing fire, where they will remain for ever. They will find neither guardian to benefit them nor helper to protect them from Allah’s punishment on the day when their faces will be turned about in the Fire. They will remorsefully say, ‘If only we had obeyed Allah and obeyed His Messenger!’ And they will say, ‘Lord, we obeyed our masters and leaders in unbelief and wickedness in the worldly life and they led us away from the path of truth. Lord, mete out to them a double punishment and banish them utterly from Your mercy.’
